Exit Signs

In case of a fire exit signs can save lives. The Exit Light Company features a variety of exit signs to comply with building fire codes and insurance standards. Energy Efficient, long life LED exit signs are hard-wired and use less than 5 watts of power, lowering your engery consumption and saving you money on your electric bill each month. Wire Free, powerless Photoluminescent and Tritium Exit Signs are very easy to install with no wiring required. Heavy Duty Exit Signs and Wet Location Exit Signs are great applications for outdoor placement.

We offer a wide range of designs and features for LED exit signs including : Architecturally distinct edge lit exit signs, modern cast aluminum exit signs, rugged steel exit signs, water resistant wet location exit signs and time saving self testing exit signs.

Battery Backup Exit Signs

Battery powered emergency exit signs are hard-wired with an internal battery backup system that allows the unit to operate for at least 90 minutes in the event of a power failure.

Wet Location Exit Signs

Wet location rated exit signs are constructed of heavy duty thermoplastic, steel or die-cast aluminum and made to be water and/or moisture resistant. They can be deployed in outdoor environments or areas subject to water spray or moisture.

With the optional cold-weather feature, our vandal resistant exit signs are perfect for installation in walk-in freezers or outdoor installation in extreme cold-weather environments where temperatures drop to -40°F.

Self Testing Exit Signs

once a month (intervals not to exceed 30 days) all exit signs that use an internal battery for Emergency Illumination should be visually inspected to ensure operation of the illumination source. In addition, each battery- backup exit sign must be tested to ensure proper illumination for no less than 30 seconds. An annual test demonstrating 1 1/2 hours (90 minutes) of operation is also required for each unit.

This testing can be time consuming and labor intensive, especially in facilities or locations with a large number of installed signs. Exit signs with self-testing / self-diagnostic capabilities allow facilities technicians to easily and quickly manage these required tests.

The Exit Light Company offers a wide variety of self-testing exit signs, emergency lights, and exit sign/emergency light combos to save you time and money without sacrificing aesthetics, durability or functionality. Learn more about Exit Sign Required Testing

Edge Lit Exit Signs

Edge-Lit LED exit signs are ideal for architectural applications, providing superior aesthetics along with flexible in-field installation. The injection-molded acrylic panels are highly polished to provide uniform light distribution and are available single or double sided. Double-sided versions feature a mirror divider. Housings are available for surface or recessed mounting, fixed or rotating panel and feature a decorative thermoplastic or aluminum housing. Directional chevrons are included with every fixture and can be easily applied in the field. Each exit sign comes with dual-voltage input for 120V or 277V AC operation. Our edge-lit exit signs are also available with emergency backup featuring a test switch, status indicator and backup battery providing 90 minutes of emergency power.

Surface Mount Edge Lit Exit Signs

Surface mount edge light exit signs provide the most variety in mounting applications and housing colors for edge lights. With available "flush," "flat," or "top" mounts, their sleek designs make them perfect for high-end applications.

AC only Exit Signs

AC only exit signs do not include a battery backup or charging circuitry and are for installation and use only where emergency power is supplied from a remote or secondary AC power supply. Our energy-saving, long-life LED exit signs use less than 5 watts of power, lowering your energy consumption and saving you money every month.

New York City Exit Signs

New York City enforces additional requirements for Exit Signs under the State of New Yorks existing codes. Enforcement of building and fire codes throughout New York are handled by the Division of Code Enforcement and Administration under the New York Department of State.

New York City Exit Sign Requirements

New York City Exit Signs require the word "EXIT" to be Red in color, 8 inches tall and have a 1 inch line thickness (stroke). NYC Exit Signs have higher visibility since standard Exit Signs have only a 6 inch letter height and smaller stroke. In addition, these units must be of metal or other durable materials. The Exit Light Co. selection of NYC Approved Emergency Lighting meet NYC codes.

Steel Exit Signs

Although plastic has come a long way in quality of construction, nothing beats the toughness, durability, or rugged look of steel. Some regulating authorities require exit signage to be made of steel, most notably New York City and the City of Chicago. If you are looking for long-lasting exit signage, you will find it in The Exit Light Company's selection of steel exit signs.

Cast Aluminum Exit Signs

Die-cast aluminum exit signs offer attractive aesthetics ideal for architectural and commercial applications. This cost-effective design offers simple installation coupled with a sleek premium look. Face plates feature concealed snap out directional chevrons that can easily be configured in the field for quick custom installation. Each exit sign comes with dual-voltage input for 120V or 277V AC operation. Our cast aluminum exit signs are available with 90 minute emergency backup battery or as cost saving AC only units.

Tritium Self Luminous Exit Signs

Self luminous tritium exit signs require no AC power connection and require no ambient light source for charging. Tritium exit signs are completely self-contained, relying on radioluminescence to illuminate the letters of the exit sign. Since no AC hookup is required, installation is incredibly simple and does not require access to conduit, outlet, or the services of an electrician (minimal installation costs). Since no power is consumed, there is ZERO lifetime power consumption cost! Since there are no electronics or batteries, tritium exit signs also enjoy ZERO lifetime maintenance costs!

Recessed Exit Signs

Recessed Mount Exit Signs offer a low-profile installation by hiding the housing, which includes the electrical components of the exit sign in the ceiling.  After installation, only the housing panel, which is flush with the ceiling, and the EXIT faceplate are visible.  The result is a beautifully minimal exit sign.

Photoluminescent Exit Signs

Glow in the Dark Photoluminescent Exit Signs are a great option for many emergency exit locations. These units are clearly observable under normal lighting conditions and brightly illuminate emergency exits in the event of low or no light. Using Photoluminescent technology, these glow in the dark exit signs and egress signs do not require electricity to operate, which makes them easy to install. In order to operate, these units require exposure to 54 LUX / 5 FC (footcandles) of ambient light to continuously stay charged.

Aluminum Photoluminescent Exit Signs

Photoluminescent exit signs on a durable aluminum substrate meld high end looks with the simplicity of power-free installation.

LED Exit Signs

LED Exit Signs are the standard due to their longevity and efficient energy usage. These energy effecient, illuminated, long life LED exit signs use less than 5 watts of power.  This lower energy consumption compared to other powered exit signs can result in large monthly savings and allows for the backup battery to operate longer than other battery backup exit signs.  The Exit Light Co. offers a variety of LED Exit Signs, Self Testing LED Exit Signs, Battery Backup Exit Signs and High End LED Exit Signs.

LEC Exit Signs - Electroluminescent

Light Emitting Capacitor (LEC) Technology is the next generation of electroluminescent light. These lights are safe, dependable and more effecient than LED lights. There are several reasons why LECs are preferable to LED based technologies, especially for safety lighting applications:

A Smaller Carbon Footprint - The Latest Standard in Energy Savings

Energy Efficiency - since LECs use electric fields in a capacitor structure to light up an entire area instead of discrete points of light, less energy is required to produce the requisite amount of light for a properly functioning safety lighting product

Visibility - because the entire surface area of the lamp is emitting light, LECs are a much more uniform and visible light source

Reliability - LECs can operate at higher temperatures than competing thin film LED technologies (such as OLED)

Lifetime - since LECs push less current through the light emitting material and do not need to be run at high wattages, the lifetime of code compliance for safety lighting applications is longer than LED based products. These units stay compliant 3-10 times longer than LED exit signs.
