We also feature a large selection of Photoluminescent Exit Signs which are non-electrical, eliminating operating costs. They provide exceptional reliability and efficiency as they do not require electricity or batteries to operate, making them maintenance free. Our selection of Photoluminescent Exit Signs also comply with NYC building and fire safety codes.

New York City Photoluminescent Signs

New York City requires that all high-rise buildings require photoluminescent exit path markings for egress routes.

New York City Photoluminescent Tape

City of Chicago Approved

The City of Chicago has specific codes regarding emergency egress signage (what products may be used and where these products must be placed).

The City of Chicago requires that any exit signs:

Signs must be rectangular 20 gauge sheet metal box with a glass or plastic face

Signs must be red lettering on white

The letters and arrows of exit signs and exit sign/emergency light combos are MANDATED to be red.

Directional Arrows are beneath the sign lettering and are the same width as the lettering

We carry a full line of City of Chicago code approved emergency egress products.

Connecticut Approved Exit Signs

The State of Connecticut requires accessible exit doors that lead directly to accesible paths of exit have an exit sign with both "EXIT" lettering and the Internation Symbol of Accessibility. These Exit Signs require a minimum of 6" Letter and Symbol Height. The Exit Light Company offers UL Listed State of Connecticut Building Approved Exit Signs.

Hazardous Location Exit & Emergency Lighting

Hazardous location rated exit signs, emergency lights, and exit sign/emergency light combos are constructed of water resistant materials to minimize or eliminate exposure of internal components to water. They can be used in outdoor environments or areas subject to water spray or moisture. These unitscarry NEMA 4X, C1D2 or equivalent certifications.

Canada Approved Safety Products

The National Building Code of Canada (NBC) 2010 introduced a major change to the emergency lighting signage.  New Construction requires the use of Running Man Exit Signs, replacing traditional EXIT, SORTIE legend signs. These running man signs contain a pictogram of a running man and a single directional arrow.  These running man exit signs MUST be Green and Bright White and the whole surface needs to be illuminated in normal and emergency modes.  According to the NBC, traditional Exit Signs with Red lettering are no longer permitted in new buildings.

Espanol / Spanish Exit Signs

"Salida" is the Spanish word for exit. We have a full selection of Spanish / Español language "Salga las Muestras," "Luces de Emergencia," and "Salga la Muestra / Luz de Emergencia Combinaciones" for facilities or areas where Spanish is primarily spoken. It is important to note that Spanish language only signage may not pass code approval in facilities within the USA, and should complement code required "EXIT" signage.

Custom Exit Signs

Need a unique sign to convey a special message? Use your own text or artwork and display it on a beautiful sign. A wide selection of signs are available to be customized with your message. Not only the message, but the sign itself is can be changed for your needs. Your sign can be produced in rugged steel or sleek plastic, with LEDs of almost any color, and in a variety of custom sizes. You can even specify tritium powered units! Popular sign requests include: X-Ray In Use, Room In Use, and Elevator.

Products Assembled in the USA

Products made or assembled in the USA imply a high standard of quality of craftsmanship. We have a full selection of exit signs, emergency lights, exit sign/emergency light combos, and power-free photoluminescent exit signs made in the United States of America.

Photoluminescent Signs and Markings

Fire Extinguishers, Exit Signs, and Emergency Lighting have long been mandatory for public buildings, but supplemental Photoluminescent Exit Path Markings and Emergency Egress Signs are sometimes required in high rise buildings or other commercial buildings. The Exit Light Company offers a wide variety of Photoluminescent Exit Signs, Glow in the Dark Exit Signs and other egress marking products to help guide you to safety (photoluminescent exit path markings and emergency egress signs).

Photoluminescent Tape and Signs

Photoluminescent (or glow-in-the-dark) tape and emergency egress signs absorb and store energy from ambient light (requires 54 LUX (5-ft candles) of fluorescent, metal halide or mercury vapor light to charge material for 60 minutes). In the event of an emergency involving blackout or smoke-laden conditions, the photoluminescent product is immediately visible, providing a safe, illuminated evacuation path. Requiring no power source, photoluminescent products can be insalled easily in any location (ambient light source required). The tape easily affixes to walls, handrails, columns, around doorframes, and along stairways and baseboards. If you are looking for safe, easy to install, long-lasting, energy-free emergency egress products, you will find it in our selection of photoluminescent exit signs and high rise building photoluminescent exit and emergency egress signs.

Photoluminescent Running Man Exit Signs

"Running Man" exit signs are well-recognized by international travelers as this style of photoluminescent exit signs are quite common throughout the rest of the world. They can now be found in the United States, seen especially in high-rise buildings, as emergency egress signs.

Egress Signs

Often seen in high-rise buildings, photoluminescent egress signs provide additional guidance above and beyond standard exit signs and emergency lights.

Exit Path Markings

Photoluminescent exit path markings provide additional guidance in the event of emergency. With the addition of photoluminescent stair markers, stair treads, and safety tape to standard exit signs and emergency lights, stairwells, handrails, and passageways become much easier to navigate. In a dimly lit smoke filled corridor, exit path markings could be the small difference between death or serious injury and safety.

Corded Exit Signs and Corded Emergency Lights

Exit signs and emergency lights with plug-and-play cords are essential when dealing with temporary structures such as event and emergency relief tents. NFPA 70 (2020 700.12.I.2) dictates:

Unit equipment shall be permanently fixed (i.e., not portable) in place and shall have all wiring to each unit installed in accordance with the requirements of any of the wiring methods in Chapter 3. Flexible cord-and-plug connection shall be permitted, provided that the cord does not exceed 900mm (3 ft) in length.

Other companies may offer emergency egress lighting fixtures with cord-sets in excess of 3 feet. Please be aware that these do not meet National Electric Code requirements and thus are not legal for use in most jurisdictions. We offer corded exit signs and corded emergency lights with a 3 foot cord with plug on a number of our best selling units. If you see a unit not listed with a 3' cord option, we still may be able to offer it (just contact us for more information).

In addition, we have a large selection of Photoluminescent and Tritium Exit Signs which are non-electrical, eliminating operating costs. They provide exceptional reliability and efficiency as they do not require electricity or batteries to operate, making them maintenance free. Our selection of Photoluminescent Exit Signs also comply with UL924 Life and Fire safety codes.

**Please note that exit signs and emergency lights with cords are custom made-to-order and addition of cord voids UL certification. As such all sales are final and no returns will be accepted.**
